I have a completed my proficiency exam in Bharatanatyam, and have been teaching for more than 3 decades. I have trained for nearly 16 years with my Gurus. I have been performing and teaching Bharatanatyam in the Memphis Metropolitan for the nearly 25 years (from February 1996). Prior to this I was teaching at the Rama Mandira in Bangalore (1989 to 1995). When I was doing my Masters, I taught Bharatanatyam to my batch mates, and others who were interested.
Performances have been in abundance during my long lasting career in dance. Jayashree Kumar made her dance debut with a solo performance at the age of seven at a state reception held by the government of Karnataka. Since then she has continued her career in dance by giving performances in India, Russia, and USA. Some very notable performances by invitation have been at the Kolonii Zal, Moscow, Russia; Acad. of Agricultural Sciences, Moscow, Russia; Academy of Sciences, Siberia, Russia; Indian Institute of World Culture, Bangalore, Yavanika, Bangalore, Many temples in Bangalore (1988-1995), Lecture demonstration in Bangalore (2005). Lecture demonstration at Rhodes college in Memphis, TN which included Temples and dances of India presentation. Since her arrival in USA in 1995, she has given performances at Hindu Temple – Atlanta, Hindu Temple – Memphis – Second Anniversary celebrations, Kannada Koota – Nashville, Methodist South hospital’s Day to dance event (2016 to 2018) Kaleidoscope food festival (2018), mid-south International festival (2019). I have performed during most all the celebrations (Eg. Deepawali, and Kannada Rajyotsava, India fest, Christmas celebrations, Easter, Vishu, and Id, India night, Diwali celebrations etc.) in Memphis, TN, Selma, AL, Atlanta, GA. in Moscow, Russia, at the annual talent competition in my academy of Agricultural sciences (Timiryazev academy of Agricultural sciences from 1982-1988), and won accolades, and first prize. I performed at Sri. Devaraja Urs’s 60th birthday celebrations, and won an award. I have performed in my elementary, middle, and high school for annual day celebrations and other events (Talent contest, school day etc.)
