Alexandra Romanova was trained in ballet at the National School of Ballet in Warsaw, studied indology at Warsaw Univerity and was awarded scholarship to learn Bharata Natyam dance in India. She spent years being trained by Yamini Krishnamurti, in New Delhi. Later she benefited from private courses by Ranganayaki Jayaraman and P.T. Narendran in Madras. She started her professional career with a traditional arangetram (debut) in New Delhi. In India she participated at different Festivals in India (“East-West Encounter”, “Kal-ke-Kalakar”, All India Festival – “Apna Utsav”) and performed for Indian television (New Delhi, Srinagar). In nineties Alexandra Romanova created her own style that explores Bharata Natyam and and ballet techniques. Since then she produces, choreographs and presents different dance projects. She has been performing on stage and German TV. She has been touring together with Indian dancers like Anita Ratnam (“Frau in Skizzen – Sacrum et Profanum”) or P.T. Narendran.
Within “Mangalam” project Romanova has been working with different musicians like Rikhy Ray, Freddie Santiago, Sivamani and V. Selvaganesh. Currently Romanova presents her newest work together with opera singer Katherine Niemiec and pianist Clara Luisa Demar (Operngesang und Tempeltanz). In this project classical european music is beeing illustrated through the technique of indian classical dance.
